Western College offers so much more to the community than just traditional vocational and recreational courses.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to access and equity for everyone, while being flexible in providing quality training and programs to people with diverse needs and from all different backgrounds.

Western College has the ability to satisfy the needs both of vocationally oriented participants who wish to learn for business, career and employment purposes and/or those participants learning for enjoyment and recreation.

Participants with special needs – including those who have been disadvantaged due to isolation, lack of numeracy and/or literacy – are catered for by a range of unique programs offered in addition to our traditional courses.

It is our commitment to our community that makes us the first choice for education and training.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

Western College recognises that all vocational training includes the language, literacy and numeracy tasks necessary to undergo assessments.  We are committed to helping those who might feel overwhelmed by this requirement or who are in some way challenged in these skill areas.

Western College provides support through discreet consultation to arrange support services.

You can discuss your concerns with your tutor directly or access our many resources including manuals, videos and computer equipment. Western College also provides ongoing support during your study. This includes private tuition, essay writing and study skills and more. (Some of these services may attract an additional fee.)

Even if you are not attending a course at Western College, we can help with support for those who have limited language, literacy and numeracy skills through a program created with a range of activities and learning experiences that increase language, literacy and numeracy skills for adult learners – generally referred to as Certificate in General Education for Adults. Please contact us for more information.

Supporting People with Disabilities

We understand that people with disabilities and their carers want the opportunity to access flexible, quality training to help improve career and life skills. Western College offers discounted courses on a regular basis to those with disabilities or their carers. If you have a disability or you are a carer of a person with a disability, we would love to hear what sort of training you would like to have available through Western College. Please contact us to find out what courses are available.

Indigenous Programs

Western College provides a variety of programs developed for and in consultation with our Indigenous communities. In addition to our traditional courses, these programs are funded by DET under the Strategic Skills Training Program to provide those with learning disadvantages the opportunity to improve their education through language, literacy and/or numeracy skills, communication, self-esteem and setting education, training and career goals. Please contact us to find out what courses are available.

Expressions of Interest

Western College encourages participants to express their interest in any courses currently not offered.  if there’s something you’d like to learn, or a course you’d like to undertake that is not currently on offer at Western College – we want to know about it! Or if you have course suggestions, please feel free to pass on your thoughts and these will be forwarded to our Training Department. Please contact us to find out more or register your interest via our online form by clicking here.

Private Tuition

Western College offers this service to new or existing participants either participating in a course that needs additional support, or for those who would like to brush up on skills but who do not necessarily need to attend a full course. Private Tuition is designed in two hour blocks where a relevant tutor will provide one-on-one tuition in the subject of choice. This service attracts an hourly charge and the number of sessions is determined by mutual agreement with the tutor and participant. Please contact us to find out more.
